Chapter One
Midnight. 1962.
She rapidly raced on the sidewalk, noticing two men following her. Quickly looks over her shoulder and continues walking.
Click, clack, click clack.
The men get closer to her. She immediately turns left into a small alley; the men follow. Realizing it is a dead end, she turns around and faces the men. The roads are empty and the night is pitch black. The men smirk at each other, knowing they will once again get away. No one is watching them. They closely stare at her, inspecting her from the green pumps up to her emerald earrings.
“Where you going, kitten? Dressed for an important event?” asked the bearded man. She looks down and breathes heavily, with both hands in her pockets. He moves closer to her. The other man pulls out a knife from his pocket.
“Not yet, this one’s a beauty. Let’s play with her first,” he says, “want to play with me?”
As he is about to touch her face, she pulls both her hands out of her pockets and motions a forceful and invisible push towards both men, slamming them to the wall. They remain stuck, magically floating, confused.
“What’s going on!?” “How the hell…” he paused as she slowly and confidently steps towards them.
“Edgar Harris. 21 murders in 10 years.” She turns to the other man. “Otto Harris, his accomplice and brother.” Both physically struggling to unlock their arms and legs from the wall, panicking.
“How do you know … why can’t we move?” he demanded angrily.
“You know, my kind works incessantly to protect yours. I have devoted over a century keeping humans from harm. However, evil beings like you exist and I am not sure why, but you keep destroying everything. As if natural disasters and diseases are not enough, you add more deaths to that number.”
“What are you?” asked Otto, trying to free himself from the invisible ties.
“I consider myself a magical being and my kind are responsible for protecting humans. We are forbidden to hurt you. It is not in our nature.” She walked towards the other side of them, watching them sweat profusely. “However, I am not like the rest of my magical kind,” she snaps her fingers to flame appearing in her hand and throws it against a pile rubble, causing an easy fire.
"I’m more of a rebel. Somewhat like Robin Hood. He protected the innocent by robbing the evil. What I do is somewhat similar…”
You know, Mr. Harris,” she looked at Edgar, “that last young lady you and your brother tortured and murdered, she was carrying a child. I saw that child’s future. He was intended for great things. He was going to find a cure for cancer. Something that would have benefited your youngest brother, Ted, in approximately a decade.” Edgar’s heart was racing.
“How… do you know all this?”
“I am a teller. I saw the future and you altered it through your selfish and malicious acts. And now that I have finally found you killers, I am going to end your spree.” Otto began hyperventilating, sweating and breathing faster than his brother. Edgar, still trying to break free, took a breath and said, “how can you kill us, you just admitted your kind is unable to do so?”
“Oh, I won’t be doing the killing,” she said, as a shadow appeared behind her. “He will.” A man with skin white as snow walked appeared behind her, lifting his head and displaying his bloodthirsty eyes. He remained nonchalant.
“Murderers again? When will you feed me someone of nobility, Simone?” He asked.
“You’re hilarious, Vyn. But you know my purpose and you know our deal.”
“And I am grateful for you. We have not broken the deal. Don’t ever worry. You can trust me.”
“No one can ever learn of this. I rid evil and your people stay away from the innocents.” She turned to the brothers. Edgar and Otto began screaming for help.
“You can’t do this!” Edgar yelled. “Please, please, please, don’t …” Otto cried, knowing he was about to die. “I repent, I can change …”
“Enough! You should have thought of that when you raped Suzzette, mutilated Annalise, murdered Seraine and her unborn child…” she paused.
“That ends now.”
“Good work, Robin Hood,” Vyn said. “Just remember to burn the bodies enough to only reveal their identities.” He nodded. “Enjoy dinner.”
Both men continued to violently scream as Simone walked out of the alley and back into the street.
